INDUSTRIAL & ENGINEERING MODELS

Industrial & engineering models

Archetype3D builds custom physical industrial and engineering scale models in Denver, Colorado, and ships them worldwide. We make equipment, facility and system models for product demonstrations, planning and public explanation.

THE APPROACH

Bring the equipment into the conversation

The roof of our Data Center model lifts to reveal the lower systems, and lighting helps guide tours of the facility. CWMF, which makes asphalt plant equipment, needed something entirely different: a model of a portable silo system that could travel to trade shows. We designed each around the conversation the client needed to have.

GETTING STARTED

Planning a project

Drawings, CAD files and photographs help us understand your equipment. We’ll talk through which parts people need to see, how your team will demonstrate them and whether the model needs to travel.

Product and process scale models

A product model can show what’s inside a device: the cutaway on our Westinghouse eVinci microreactor model makes its internal components visible. A process or system model, like the portable silo system we built for CWMF, shows how the parts of an operation fit together and can travel to where your audience is.

Engineering presentation models

An engineering presentation model gives the public, investors or customers the same clear picture of a facility, a piece of equipment or a system. We plan the cutaways, lighting and removable parts around what each audience needs to understand.

Common questions

What is an engineering scale model?

It’s a physical model, built at a chosen scale, that explains how equipment, a facility or a system is arranged. Ours are display models made to tell a clear story to audiences such as the public, investors or customers.

What do you need to start an industrial model?

Drawings, CAD files and photographs help us understand your equipment. We’ll talk through which parts people need to see, how your team will demonstrate them and whether the model needs to travel.

Can an industrial model travel to trade shows or tours?

Yes. The CWMF silo-system model was made to travel to trade shows, and we plan handling, transport and protective cases from the start. See our trade show display models. Trade show display models.

How much does an industrial model cost?

It depends on what the model needs to show, its size and scale, and the level of finish. Our guide to what a custom scale model costs explains what we look at. Planning the model budget.

How much does a industrial or engineering model cost?

Archetype3D prices every model by shop time, at about $5,000 per week, with a fixed-cost proposal for each project. Models range from about $5,000 for a simple study model to $150,000 for a large, complex development. For industrial and engineering models, the main cost drivers are internal components, cutaways and working features. See the cost guide. Cost guide.
