Our scale model production process
Building a custom scale model starts with understanding your idea. We work through the size, details and presentation needs together, then stay in touch as the model takes shape.
Explore your idea
We start by learning what you envision, who will see the model and where it will be used. Plans, CAD files, photographs or sketches can help us understand the project, and we can talk through your timing together.
Work out the details
We recommend a scale, size and level of finish based on what the model needs to show. We also discuss lighting, removable parts, a case or anything else the job calls for. Your project lead keeps you informed as work progresses.
Build and review
Our team makes the model using the methods that suit it. You review the finished work before it is packed and shipped.
From source material to a finished display
The source material helps us decide how to build each part. Plans and elevations establish buildings and site relationships; CAD or 3D files can describe equipment; survey and elevation data define terrain. We discuss what is ready, what may change and which details the audience actually needs. You can begin before drawings are complete.
Our shop combines 3D printing, CNC milling and laser cutting with hand building, painting and finishing. The method follows the subject. For the Infleqtion model, a supplied STEP file informed printed parts and laser-cut components. The Mount St. Helens terrain began with elevation data and CNC cutting, with satellite imagery used for its laser-etched grayscale surface.
Lighting, removable components and the display base belong in the plan early. So do a protective cover, travel case or installation requirements. Revisions after fabrication begins can affect both cost and schedule, which is why we discuss likely design changes before building. Our schedule guide explains the factors that shape timing.
You review the finished work before packing and shipment. A model made for a fixed sales center has different transport needs from one that moves between shows. We can help plan packing, worldwide delivery and on-site installation; see shipping and transporting scale models for the questions to settle.
