Northern Strike Terrain One shows Michigan, its lake and parts of the neighboring states and Canada. The other looks more closely at Camp Grayling. The two scales give the training team both the wider setting and a local view.

Exercise Northern Strike used two topography models at different scales: a regional view of Michigan, the lake and neighboring states and Canada, and a closer view of Camp Grayling. The broader model helps orient viewers across the region; the site-level view brings attention to a specific training area. Together, the two displays show why scale should follow the question being asked, rather than trying to make one model serve every viewing distance.
The two models let viewers move from regional orientation to a closer look at Camp Grayling. Choosing two scales preserves legibility across both geographic extents and avoids compressing very different levels of detail into one display.
