Data Center Model

Some models are a combination of architecture and engineering. One such project we recently completed is the Winchester Data Center in Kansas City. This model is used to give tours of this highly sensitive and high-security facility. The building is unique in that is house secure computer servers. the wiring around all the roofs is actually a continuous lighting rod mitigate any hint of an electrical surge.

Visiting this building is no easy task. After your car search, you must go through two separate barrier systems to gain access. Since VIP visitors are only allowed limited access the model is the first stop.

Numerous lighting events show off the data streams, the server locations, and the internal computer systems. The main center roof section rises up to show the lower level systems. external underground fuel tanks also light up to demonstrate their independence to the grid. We had to create some brand new lighting systems to accomplish all that was needed.

Scientific Drilling

Scientific drilling needed to demonstrate their complex system for drilling for oil. Archetype 3D was hired to design and build a display model to demonstrate this system. The problem was how to represent radio waves travelling from an underground drill bit to a receiving tower. Their drill system sends signals into the surrounding ground to determine if there is another pipe in the way. They can then re-direct the drill bit to travel around the obstacle. To show this and other features of their system Archetype 3d designed an out of scale demonstration model to show off these features. This circular model has events shown on all sides. They include the by-pass system and ocean drilling systems. Earth striations will represented with numerous drill systems travelling through. The lighting was created to show movement through the earth and signals being sent to a central tower.

Each element of this model was carefully designed and approved by the client so that the sales team could use it to sell at least five different product types within the same model. The model has traveled to numerous trade shows throughout the US and when not travelling it sits in the Scientific Drilling lobby to attract visitors and explain their systems to local clients.

Making complex systems easy to understand is one of the best uses for a physical model at a trade show. Your model should attract customers from across the room and once you have them at your booth, the model needs to clearly demonstrate you products so that they can relate to the model and your product quickly and understand why they should buy right now. Equipment Models of Cooling Towers

These two large models show the inner workings of two cooling tower designs. Built to travel to various trade shows and marketing events, these models made a huge impact wherever they were viewed.

Literally, thousands of baffles and louvers were inserted into these models. As part of my continuing education, I learned that the process of cooling a LOT of hot water involves blowing air over the water drops as they are being splattered about by all of these baffles. The housings for the fans were built from urethane poured into a two-part mold. The rest of the structure involved assembling a lot of pieces.

California Water Treatment Plant Model

The engineering behind clean water is remarkable and constantly changing. Yes, 3D files and graphics are used to represent these in meetings but our physical models are still the best way to demonstrate the new technologies and to give the public confidence on how these controversial but necessary plants are built.

A model of this nature will instantly demonstrate not only the equipment but the location and local impact of this complex construction. This model of the plant in Oxnard California was used in many public meetings to help clarify the design and smooth the process of approvals.

Chemical Injection Equipment Model

When you build heavy equipment you are faced with the problem of showing it off. The operative word here is HEAVY.

This extremely complex piping model is simply a sales tool. In a trade show setting, this model is a great draw for interested buyers. The oil industry has a lot of competition and separating your brand is a challenge. Since it is impractical to show the tons of equipment this model represents. Let the model do the work and make the sales for you.

Newspaper Plant Layout Models

I am showing two different models representing several that we have done for the newspaper industry. Printing, organizing sections, stacking, raw materials etc. all add to the complexity of print houses like these.

These engineering models have been built to demonstrate layout of equipment and flow of materials. They are used to prove out new concepts and approve designs before construction. After the plants are built the scale models are still utilized for training staff, showing flow, and creating safety programs.
