Sixth Street

The Sixth Street Viaduct in Los Angeles California needs to be replaced. The concrete is disintegrating and there is no other solution but to rebuild the bridge. Unfortunately there is also a huge fan base for this old bridge.

Because of its location it has been featured in about 70 major motion pictures. Jim Carrey’s “The Mask” and “S.W.A.T.” to name two. Many groups needed to see our models of the six proposed designs and provide their opinions. The model was also used to demonstrate that replicating the original design was not practical – bridge design has come along way since this was originally built. This engineering model was in three sections stretching over eleven feet long and used fifteen parts that fit into the three bases to show all the different designs.

Port of Long Beach

This model of the port of Long Beach California was built as a civil – engineering model to show the new bridge and proposed layout of the port. The client had a tight budget and we worked closely with him to get the shapes needed without more detailing than was required.

We work hard to serve our clients needs and not every engineering model requires the vast amount of detail work that we are capable of.

Four Bridges

These civil engineering models were constructed as alternative designs for the Hoover Dam commuter bridge project below. The models were built in a larger scale so each one reached four feet across.

Sections of the canyon on each side were accurately cut so that the footers and anchors could be accurately represented. The scale was large enough to see the underside of the models and to get a good perspective from all angles. We created elegant custom presentation boxes for each bridge model so that they can be carried into meeting and displayed properly.

Hoover Dam

One of the great tourist attractions in the west is Hoover Dam. Besides regulation the flow of the Colorado River and generating electricity for several states, it is also a marvelous place to visit. It is so popular an attraction that tourists jam the highway over the dam and cause many traffic problems and delays.

The solution is the newly constructed commuter bridge downstream of the dam itself. We built this model of the dam and bridge before construction to show the look and feel of the new structure. The civil engineers, developers, state officials and construction workers all saw this model during the design and contracting phase of construction. The model is currently residing in our front office to welcome visitors to our model shop.
